Needle Felted Mini Tapestry (for adults)

Join Kristen Langlais for a joyful and relaxing fiber arts evening! In this first of three winter felting workshops, participants will learn how to needle felt colorful wool to create a two dimensional picture in an embroidery hoop frame. New & experienced felters are welcome!
Class fee: $25 (10% discount for Catamount Arts members). Catamount Arts is committed to offering quality arts experiences for all students, regardless of ability to pay; please call Anne at 802-748-2600 ext. 109 for information about scholarship funds.

Kristen Langlais is a classroom teacher, outdoor educator, fiber artist, storyteller, gardener, Christmas tree farmer, and shepherdess. She loves connecting people of all ages to nature in varied ways. She also enjoys partaking in endeavors that boost creativity through wool felting and music.
You've Got To Be Kidding: We're Doing Vaudeville! (adults)

Did you grow up (on TV or online) with Red Skelton, Ed Sullivan, Carol Burnett, Jackie Gleason, Laugh-in, Prairie Home Companion or In Living Color? That's Vaudeville, and that's what we're doing. This 6-week course will help participants develop their inherent funny bones and gain new life skills to boot. The final class will have you performing in a Vaudevillian revue of skits, puns and fun -- a regular hogshead of humor. HOORAY! Whether you've been on stage or not, if you want to have some laughs, develop better acting chops and boost your self-confidence, come play with us!
Class fee: $130 (10% discount for Catamount Arts members and high school students). We strive to make arts learning experiences accessible to all, regardless of ability to pay; please call Anne at 802-748-2600 ext. 109 to discuss payment plans or payment on a sliding scale.
William York Hyde, SAG-AFTRA member and former flatlander, has performed in movies, TV shows, radio broadcasts, commercials, voice-overs, and more than 130 stage productions. Since settling in St. Johnsbury, William has taught acting classes for Catamount Arts, coached high schoolers in performing Shakespearian soliloquies, completed several Teaching Artist seminars, and founded a local Vaudevillian comedy troupe, which performed at St. J Sparkles and First Night North, and is now booking future shows. From coast to coast, from the avant-garde to Shakespeare, from Renaissance fairs to Broadway, William is keen to share his experience and insights with curious, creative, and adventurous New Englanders.

Workshop Description: Ready to create a dynamic and engaging art center that fosters children's creativity and independent exploration? Early childhood educators will learn practical strategies for setting up an art space that encourages open-ended art experiences, using affordable and easily accessible materials. We will cover essential topics including creating a welcoming environment, selecting appropriate materials, setting up art invitations that support young children, and how to manage materials. Participants can earn professional development credit from Northern Lights.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will learn how to design and organize an art center that promotes open-ended art experiences, including selecting and arranging materials in a way that encourages experimentation and creativity among young children.
Participants will explore ideas for setting up art invitations that stimulate children's imagination and foster independent exploration, while ensuring the art center remains easy to maintain and accessible to all learners.
EcoArt: Creating with Recycled Materials with April Zajko, M.Ed.

VIRTUAL - Tuesday, April 15, from 6-8pm
Discover how recycled materials can become tools for imaginative play and artistic expression. We'll explore the creative potential of common materials such as corrugated cardboard, cereal boxes, tubes, milk jug caps, fabric scraps, egg cartons, plastic containers, old magazines, scrap wood, and even bubble wrap. Learn practical techniques for building sturdy 3D structures and explore ways to inspire children’s open-ended creations. We’ll also discuss how to set up and manage an “Imagination Station” that invites ongoing exploration while staying organized. By the end of the session, you'll leave with fresh ideas for integrating sustainability into your creative curriculum, practical tips for material management, and strategies for fostering children's problem-solving and artistic skills.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will identify and explore creative uses for a variety of recycled materials, such as cardboard, bottle caps, and fabric scraps, to spark children's imagination and promote sustainability.
Participants will explore techniques for constructing sturdy 3D creations and supporting children in open-ended building and design.
Participants will develop strategies for setting up and managing a well-organized “Imagination Station,” fostering child-led creativity while maintaining an accessible and tidy creative space.

In preparation for PoemTown St. Johnsbury 2025 – a community-wide celebration of National Poetry Month that takes place in April – join poet Katie Moritz for a FREE poetry workshop on the theme of BELONGING. Writers who choose to submit their poems to PoemTown St Johnsbury will have them displayed in storefronts throughout April.
Open to all community members - no poetry experience needed! Participants can choose from one of four workshop times. Admission is FREE, but you must register online or by calling the box office at 802-748-2600, ext. 3.
The workshops are part of a community-wide writing project, Paper Chains, which is funded in part by an Arts and Social Cohesion grant from the Vermont Community Foundation. The aim of Paper Chains is to build connections among community members by writing about the experience of belonging (or not belonging), and inviting those whose voices are not generally heard to participate. In addition to offering the public workshops, we will be working with Writers for Recovery and also training staff and volunteers from a wide range of community agencies to lead writing workshops for their clients and constituents.
PoemTown St. Johnsbury is a collaborative project of Catamount Arts, St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, and Discover St. Johnsbury, and is affiliated with Kellogg-Hubbard Library's PoemCity.
Katie Moritz is a published poet and nonfiction author, and her fiction work has been nominated for a prestigious Pushcart Prize. Katie has over a decade of experience in writing and communication. Prior to her position as the Communication Liaison at NVRH, she has served as an editor of a weekly paper, a manager of an assisted living facility, and an educator for at-risk youth and first generation college students. While pursuing a master’s degree in writing and literature at Dartmouth, she founded a graduate student journal, and in turn served as its editor-in-chief. She currently lives in Vermont's rural Northeast Kingdom with her husband, her son, a dog, and her toothless cat.
