All shapes, colors, and textures in nature are shapes, colors, and textures that are utilized in art and in play. In this class, children will explore materials, share ideas, and create nature-based artwork. We will gather natural materials outside (autumn is a wonderful time for seed heads and leaves!) and share our reactions to the objects. Together the class will decide on a project to make with what they have gathered, and instructor Christine Nockels will be there as a guide for safe material use and suggestions as the children create a unique work that is all their own.
This class is a process-based learning experience. Children will be encouraged to explore and try different approaches to getting the results they want. Children will be encouraged to help each other with problem solving and brainstorming, rather than relying on the instructor for help, and will build a creative community within the classroom.
Available materials will encourage fine motor skills and language development.
Parents of children with special needs are welcome to join the class as support, but we ask that you allow your child to work as independently as possible.
